Write about what you are thankful for.

Prompt Response: I am thankful for my family and friends. They all do so much for me, including supporting me, being there for me, sharing fun and exciting moments with me, and many other things. I also am thankful for my parents and what they do to provide for me. I am thankful for food because it is delicious. I am thankful for my health so that I can participate in many activities.  Summary: Today we took an assessment of Robert Frost's poetry. It covered four of his poems and had 32 questions.  Reflection: I think that I did well on the assessment even though I missed some of the days that we went over Frost's poetry. I understood what the majority of the questions were asking and I think that I got most of them right.

Write about a truth you were afraid to accept.

Prompt Response: A truth that I was afraid to accept was that I would never be good at basketball. When I was growing up I loved playing basketball, we had a basketball hoop in our driveway that I would shoot on every day. I played up until my freshmen year of high school when my team lost every single game that season. I had not done well in the last few seasons and I didn't really enjoy it anymore. So I had to realize that I wasn't meant to play basketball and I quit and started playing baseball and swimming.  Summary: Today Mr. Rease was absent so we worked on a NewELA article assignment. We answered questions and wrote a prompt related to the text.  Reflection: I enjoyed the NewELA article because we were able to work independently. Also, I enjoy analyzing articles. This article was interesting and had some cool information about medical diagnosis.

Write about adventure you would like to go on.

Prompt Response: An adventure that I would like to go on is a trip to Hawaii to learn how to surf. I love the beach and have never been to Hawaii. I also think that surfing seems really cool and I would like to learn how to do it. While in Hawaii I would also eat lots of delicious food, explore the islands and the volcanoes, snorkel or scuba dive, and go deep-sea fishing as well. I think that all of these things combined would make an awesome adventure to Hawaii.  Summary: Today in class we worked on a worksheet where we analyzed a poem by Robert Frost called, "The Road Not Taken." We looked at some vocabulary words, located themes, summarized the stanzas, and answered questions on the back.   Reflection: I thought that this lesson was good because we got to work independently. I also enjoyed analyzing another Robert Frost poem. As we look at more and more of his poems I really like his work.

Describe something that you will never fully understand.

Prompt Response: I will never fully understand how the universe can continually expand and that outside of the universe, there is literally nothingness. I just cannot grasp the concept that there can be nothing, and it is also hard to grasp the concept of infinity.  Absent

Write about something that you wish you had more of.

Prompt Response: I wish I had more money. If I had enough, I could skip college, all the stuff related to preparing for a career, and then not have to get a career as well. I would be able to live my life to the fullest and experience everything I want. I could travel wherever and do what ever I want. That is why I would like to have more money.  Absent

Describe when you had a moment of unexpected kindness.

Prompt Response: One time when I was in Utah me and my family went to a cookie store that was recommended to us by a friend. When we got there the lady in the store gave us unlimited free sample of the cookies. This was very unexpected because the samples were very large. The cookies were also some of the best cookies I’ve ever had.  Absent

Write about a feeling that took you by surprise.

Prompt Response: A feeling that took me by surprise was when I found out I was moving. I was born in Bloomington, Indiana, and then moved to Texas around age 2. I lived in Texas for 5 years until I turned 7, which is when my dad got a job offer in Georgia. I remember when I found out that we were moving. I remember feeling sad because I would have to leave my friends, but I was also surprised that I was excited to move. I didn't expect this because I always thought I would feel really sad when we moved. But I was excited to move and have things change up.  Summary: Today we read a poem by Robert Frost called "Out Out." It was about a boy who was working on a farm with a saw when he cut his hand off. This led to him dying. We worked on a paper where we analyzed the poem and found themes located in the text.  Reflection: I enjoyed reading the poem and analyzing it in depth. I don't really like poetry but I liked the story and themes in this poem.

Describe a time when you felt completely lost.

Prompt Response: A time that I felt completely lost was when I had to fly to France all by myself. My dad got a job in France for the summer, so me and my family went to go visit him. My family left two weeks before me so I could go to a summer camp. My friend and his parents dropped me off at the airport and I checked into my flight and went to the gate. I got on the plane when it was time to board and we took off. It was around a 12-hour flight so I watched a lot of movies and slept as well. When the plane landed and I got off I felt very lost and scared. All the signs were in different languages and I had never gone through customs by myself. However, I was able to find my way through the airport and I met my family at baggage claim. I had a great time in Europe and I will never forget that experience.  Summary: Today we worked on a worksheet and learned our new vocabulary. On the worksheet, we had to fill in sentences with the vocabulary words and we had to write our own...

Write about a place you never wanted to leave.

Prompt: Write about a place you never wanted to leave. Prompt Response: A place I never wanted to leave was Costa Rica. Me and my family lived there for around a month and a half during the Covid-19 pandemic. We had a lovely house on top of a cliff in the jungle. You could look off the cliff and see the ocean and beautiful rock structures. Every morning we would get woken up by screeching monkeys and tropical birds. Everything was so peaceful and life was slow-paced. The food was delicious and cheap as well. I loved going to the beach, swimming, boogie-boarding, and many other activities. We visited volcanos and went ziplining hundreds of feet above the jungle. I would love to have the opportunity to go back and experience this again.  Summary: Today we continued working on our one-pagers, but since I have already finished mine, I am working on this post. We also learned about the new blog post format today, where we have to respond to a prompt given to us for the day.  Refle...

November 7

Today we worked on a one-pager for the short story “Ambush” by Tim O’Brien. We drew a visual, wrote vocabulary words, analyzed quotes, summarized it, and wrote a personal connection, as well as other things. I enjoyed this project because I like doing art. I can use the skill of making personal connections to better understand texts in the future. My day today has been good so far, I am happy that tomorrow is Friday. I have swim practice today as well which should be fun.

November 5

 No school, Election Day.

November 1

Today we did a test on the Rockpile story. I thought that it was around medium difficulty and I think I got the majority of the questions right. I enjoyed reading the Rockpile and thought that it was an interesting story that had a deeper meaning about freedom and the dangers that come with it. My day today has been good. I am feeling very tired from Halloween last night. I am excited for the weekend because I have my first swim meet on the Lakeside team. I am also excited to go to my friends Halloween party.

November 4

Today we read a story called "Ambush" about a young man in a war. After that, we worked on some discussion questions. The story is about a moment during the author's time in war. It talks about an event where he had to ambush an enemy soldier with a grenade. I learned about the trauma of war and how it can have lasting effects on your mental health. I also thought more deeply about the story while answering the discussion questions. This was an enjoyable lesson and it helped me learn to analyze text more deeply. My day today has been good so far. I did a mock voting thing in APUSH and I'm excited to see the results. I am also excited to have a virtual day tomorrow because I'll get to sleep in.
