How important is it for you to retain your cultural foods as you move forward in life? Explain the importance and which foods you cannot live without.

Prompt Response:  It is very important to me to retain my cultural foods as I move forward in life. I love hamburgers, barbeque, fried chicken, brownies, cookies, and tons of other foods that I grew up eating. I think that food is a great way to connect and bond with others through sharing your culture. That is why I would like to retain my cultural foods as I grow up.  Summary: Today we worked on finishing our cultural masks and colored them.  Reflection:  I enjoyed reflecting on who I am and the cultures and things that have helped create me.

What is the most important aspect of your identity? Tell what it is and why.

Prompt Response:  The most important aspect of my identity is how I treat others and the example I set. I try to be a good person in everything that I do. I try to be kind, treat others with respect, and to help others act the same way. I think that that is the most important aspect of my identity because it is one of the first things that people notice about me.  Summary: Today in class we read a poem and then created a mask that represents our personal identities.  Reflection:  I enjoyed thinking about who I am and I also enjoyed drawing and designing the mask.

How would you feel if your privacy was invaded online or on your phone? Do you think privacy is a basic civil liberty?

Prompt Response:  If I had my privacy invaded online, I would feel upset and very uncomfortable. If someone had access to all of my online activity they could access all my accounts, subscriptions, and bank details and use that for personal gain or other things. I think privacy is a basic civil liberty to a certain extent. If the government has reasonable suspicion that you might be up to no good, I think that it is ok for them to gain access to your information to investigate you.  Summary: Today in class we worked on a worksheet discussing our civil rights.  Reflection:  I enjoyed the discussion we had in class today because I learned somethings I didn't know about our laws.

Describe what you did over the winter break (use at least 5 words from Vocabulary Lesson 10 in your paragraph)

Prompt Response:  Over winter break I stayed here in Georgia. I hung out with friends, worked, and spent so much money on food that I am now impecunious . I importuned my parents to let me stay out later than usual so that I could hang out longer, and they allowed me to. Whenever there is a break it is imperative  that you get some work done that you now have time to do. So, I helped my friend with his Eagle Scout project, replaced a door in my house, and did some car detailing jobs. I did play a little too many video games this break, which is a bit ignoble.  By the end of the week, I was sad that the break was coming to an end and I was dreading the imminent return to school.  Summary: Today in school we worked on a comic strip where we used all of our vocabulary words in the panels.  Reflection:  Although it was hard to figure out how to use all 15 vocab words, I enjoyed today's lesson because I like drawing as well as being creative.

Describe your idea of a perfect day spent with someone you care about.

Prompt Response:  My idea of a perfect day spent with someone I care about is doing something active or fun like swimming at a lake or golfing. I enjoy having experiences like that because it helps you bond and create memories with the people. After we do that main activity, we would go to a good restaurant and eat food. I am a big fan of going out and eating because you can enjoy delicious food, try something new, and talk about whatever you want while you're eating. After we ate, we would go chill at home and watch a movie or play video games to relax.  Summary: Today in class we had a work period where we worked on our American Dream time travel project.  Reflection:  I enjoyed this project because I thought it was fun to imagine a character traveling to the future and witnessing all the change and growth of society.

What is your American Dream? What do you like most about America?

Prompt Response:  My American Dream is having many opportunities such as pursuing a career that is fun and exciting, while still being able to live comfortably and support myself and my family. I like America because there are many opportunities open to everyone and many paths you can take in life.  Summary: Today we read a poem by Langston Hughes about the American Dream. After that, we worked on a paper discussing issues in American society.  Reflection:  I enjoyed reading the poem and discussing potential solutions for issues in American society.

Describe a time when someone offended you with their words.

Prompt Response:  One time that someone offended me with their words was when a kid told me I was boring for playing video games. I was discussing a game with one of my friends, and the kid just butted in and told me that I was boring. This really shocked me and offended me, although I don't really care about it now, it did affect me a lot then.  Summary: Today in class we discussed words that were offensive to us, and then we read a poem about the power of words. After that, we finished class by writing 10+ sentences about a time when we were offended.  Reflection: I learned about the power and influence that words can have on people.

What life skills have you learned in high school that will help you live independently after high school? Which skills do you think are essential for your success after high school?

Prompt Response:  One of the most important life skills that I have learned in high school is time management. If you can manage your time well, you can complete every task you need to do. This is also important for success later in life so you can be successful juggling relationships, work, education, and more.  Summary: Today we worked on a NEWSELA on the Bill of Rights.  Reflection:  I enjoyed today's work because it was rather simple and easy to complete.

It's Super Bowl weekend! Some people watch the Super Bowl for football, others for the commercials, and some just for the halftime show. What’s your favorite part of big events like this, and why?

Prompt Response:  My favorite part of big events like this is how they bring people together. I enjoy celebrating events like the Super Bowl with friends by throwing parties and eating food. It is always a really fun time and creates fun memories. I also enjoy watching Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid pay off the referees every year so that they have a chance at winning the Super Bowl.  Summary: Today in class we took a formative assessment for American Literature. The data from it will be collected and analyzed for future use.  Reflection:  I thought that the test was pretty easy and I think that I did well on it.

What do you think are your biggest strengths as a speaker? What challenges do you face when presenting in front of an audience?

Prompt Response:  I think my biggest strengths as a speaker is having a clear and loud voice. Some challenges that I have when presenting in front of an audience is that I have a hard time getting out what I want to say. I know what I want to say but I have a hard time saying it and putting it into words.  Summary: Today in class we presented our "A Lesson Before Dying" projects. I did the one on items we might find in character's trash cans.  Reflection:  I learned that I need to make more eye contact and read less directly from the slides.

If you had to write a poem about your life RIGHT NOW, what would it be about? Explain your answer in at least 4 to 5 sentences.

Prompt Response:   If I had to write a poem about my life right now it would probably be about my day-to-day schedule. In the poem, I would explain how my schedule is boring and repetitive. This is due to school being very boring and me running out of interesting things to do. I would talk about how I want to experience new things and make life more exciting.  Summary: Today we worked on a "Found Poem" using text from Jefferson's diary entry in Chapter 29.  Reflection:  I enjoyed reading this chapter because it let you see how Jefferson is truly feeling. You sort of get an understanding of his real, raw emotions. I also enjoyed making this poem because it was fun piecing together parts of the text to make a poem.

Describe a time when you had to speak in front of an audience. What were your fears? How did you handle them? What advice would you give to someone struggling with stage fright?

Prompt Response:  One time I had to give a lesson in Sunday school at church. I was a little nervous, but I am close friends with all of the kids in my class, so I was pretty comfortable. I was mostly afraid of not being able to get my point across clearly. To avoid that happening, I made sure to prepare my whole lesson a few nights before. My advice would be to make sure you are well prepared.  Summary: Today we took notes on a presentation about public speaking.  Reflection:  The presentation was helpful and had some very interesting points and methods to reduce the fear of public speaking.
